Eyewitnesses to Walking in the Footsteps of “Matsuo Bashō” in Japan
The E-Village in Abu Dhabi has announced the launch of its new expedition titled “In the Footsteps of Bashō in Japan” which will last for three years from 2020 to 2022 and is commissioned and sponsored by Emirati poet Mohammed Ahmed Al Suwaidi.
The expedition will visit the locations that Matsuo Bashō, one of the greatest Japanese poets and an influential figure in the Japanese literature, visited. Bashō went on a journey to the northern regions of Japan during a period known as “Osaka’s Golden Century” (from 1644 to 1694) during which he crossed nearly three hundred kilometers on foot. The journey, which lasted one hundred and fifty days, was documented in Bashō’s book “Narrow Road to the Deep North”. On this occasion, we invite you to comment on this journey’s collections which we selected so that you become part of the #e_village expedition to walk in the footsteps of Bashō on his epic journey in #Japan.
It is worth mentioning that poet Mohammed Ahmed Al Suwaidi will sign the journey’s business conduct letter following many studies and meetings with the experts and interested parties. According to the approved plan, the journey’s total duration will be three years from January 2020 to December 2022 during which the expedition will investigate and explore the cities’ lifestyle, cuisine and famous landmarks. Moreover, expert researchers will track down the places that the great Bashō passed by during his famous journey (Narrow Road to the Deep North) in an attempt to rediscover them. On the other hand, the technical team at the E-Village will prepare the audio-visual equipment to document the entire journey and update the followers on the journey’s progress. The coverage will highlight what Bashō has said, the stories he came to know, the places he visited, and the people he met, as well as investigate the stories that were linked to his journey. Other cultural highlights will be announced soon.
